Off we go into the wild blue yonder...

I'm writing today from the very green grass filled state of Washington. Each year we come out to se Marks family! This year we're making this trip with something new....an almost two year old! As I was preparing for this trip my husband and son could vouch that my attitude may have been a bit reminisicant of mama bear coming out of hibernation too early. Let's just say I was a bit stressed. We had just come out of a rough week with the flu invading our house and many other responsibilities that could not be ignored before we left! All this to say I have grown to the point spiritually where I knew I had a choice to make: 1 - have a terrible attitude and be overcome by stress or 2- allow God to work in me and help me to simply worship Him and get done only what HAD to be done. I finished my run outside on Monday morning and during my cool down prayed aloud that God would give me the grace, patience, and mercy that I needed. I think my neighbor lady saw/heard me praying to myself and thought I was a bit crazy but...oh well!!!

So...I was able to calm down, embrace the moments, and be the wife and mom God granted me the ability to be. There were still moments of tension but not nearly as bad as it could have been had I not relied on God.

I say all this to share a short excpert from a book I'm reading entitled, "7 ways to be a S.M.A.R.T.E.R. mom" by Kasey Johnson. Here it is: My value, my ability, is not contingent on or measured against how much I finish. My worth is based on the foundation I have as a child of God. I'm not defined by my accomplishments. No matter how much we plan the daily events and timetables of life, we must remember that ultimately God is our guide and our provider. He alone has our best interests in mind."

  1. Jenn,
I just recently met Kasey at my moms group. She invited me to be on her creative team, so I'm getting to know her a bit more. I'm waiting on the arrival of my book, but I can't wait to read it! She is a mom just like us, just with kids a bit older than ours. Check out her blog... www.smartermoms.wordpress.com.

  3. Being a list-maker, I often feel that I've fallen short if everything isn't crossed off. Thanks for reminding me what REALLY matters!

    Love, Mary
