Influencer

Normal has changed. I keep telling my kids that they are living and breathing history. As we face, endure and live into COVID-19 across the globe we have some big decisions to make. Hospitals are experiencing tension and stress. Schools are closed. Millions of individuals are suddenly unemployed. Churches are actually living out "The Church" as we practice community and love OUTSIDE of our church doors. Normal has changed.

As I have been reflecting in my home these past three weeks I have found that the stillness can still be fast paced. The quiet can still seem loud.

We have decisions to make.

One of my favorite influencers is Kate from The Small Things Blogs. I follow her because she's real, she's practical and she's not ashamed to share real life. As I have found myself experiencing stillness, quiet and this "pause" my emotions have been swirling. We are navigating uncharted emotion in our culture and our world. My heart has been wrestling because I know it would be easy to jump right back into the fast paced, over worked, individualized life that we have all been living once we return to our "new normal."

What if, rather than this being a monument in which we see and then pass, this time is a footprint? What if we all desire for this time to be a footprint for ourselves as individuals and a footprint for the church? We realize that, not only are we created for connection but for the first time we are aching together, as a culture, for connection. As I wrestle, I'm determined to actually live into the stillness and be. I'm determined to allow myself to sit in quiet and simply be. We have to make the decision to turn off the distractions, voices and expectations in order to experience stillness and quiet.

As my emotions and thoughts have been stirred I find myself asking, "What kind of influencer am I?" I will admit, my eyes have been opened to the many times I rushed by opportunities in the name of work, schedule and expectations.

Let's not shame ourselves for what we are awakened to from our daily routines only weeks ago. Let's influence with love. Let's influence by connection. Take the time.
