Give it a rest!

So...I've decided that Wednesday will be my day to update my blog. You might find a random thought, idea, or recipe pop up on a day other than Wednesday but from here on out...if you are interested in reading check for new posts on Wednesday of each week!

My thought to leave with you today is this: Take time to REST during this Christmas season.

I am participating in a Beth Moore bible study called Breakingfree. I've mentioned it in prior posts. This week Beth is talking about resting. One of the points she brought up is that we can find ourselves in "captivity by activity." If you know me at all you know that I struggle with doing too much. As my readers I also know that most of you are faced with, "Can you do this?," "Can you volunteer here?," "Can you bake 10 dozen cookies?" Now...don't get me wrong. I've asked and  been asked these questions and believe there is a time and place for a "Yes" and a "No!" Even though we are faced with so much activity I believe it is our responsibility to find balance so we are not in "captivity by activity." I personally strive for this each day!

Beth Moore also brought up the point that God calls us to rest and if we do not take time to rest in Him (submerging ourselves in scripture, being quiet before him, taking time to pray to Him) that we are simply disobeying God. GULP!! This is serious people! We must take time to rest...I must take time to rest!

I encourage you to keep in the forefront of your mind what the whole point of this Advent and Christmas season is all about. We have a blessed, awesome, amazing Savior! Praise His Name!

"Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light." Matthew 11: 28-30

Rest!

  1. Jen, thanks for sharing this. I've been through that Beth Moore study, and it is good. Maybe I need to go through it again... Captivity to Activity is where I've found myself this week. I'm run down from trying to keep a house of 7 fed and clean, even though its not all my responsibility! I had a moment of realization when my oldest daughter (5 years old) said to me that I "never have time." Innocent as it was, it made me examine how my time was spent and if it is reflecting my priorities. I need to refocus my attention on what I am home for... to serve my God in my specific calling, which is to raise my girls, and not on being the perfect homemaker. This blog entry only reinforces that thought for me. Thanks!

  2. I haven't rested this week. Thanks for reminding me that God desires and deserves my quiet presence too.
