Calling
I have been reminded lately, on two different occasions, about the importance of listening to the call God has placed upon our lives. My husband and I spend a lot of time planning for our church, praying for our church, and loving the people God has placed within our lives. My husband is currently working on his Doctor of Ministry degree and also has some time consuming responsibilities outside of our local church body. When you combine my husband's responsibilities with the many things I am doing and then you throw in the important aspect of parenting and paying attention to the needs within your marriage, it gets a little crazy! Please hear me, I am not stating details of our life to complain, I simply want to make clear my point.
When we allow all the "things" we are doing to become our focus it is easy, very easy, to FORGET the calling God has placed upon our lives.
My husband and I have a deep call to ministry and to walk along side others in ministry. God is reminding me that He is the one who placed that call upon our lives. We did not just pick it out of a hat and decide the direction of our lives. God wants us in ministry. He wants us to love. He DOES NOT want us to lose sight of that.
I have been reading the devotional, My Utmost for His Highest, and recently came across this quote:

I have been reading the devotional, My Utmost for His Highest, and recently came across this quote:
"Our blood flows and our breathing continues "without ceasing"; we are not even conscious of it, but it never stops. And we are not always conscious of Jesus keeping us in perfect oneness with God, but if we are obeying Him, He always is."-Oswald Chambers
I deeply desire to have the level of obedience where God keeps me in "perfect oneness" with Him.
God did not call us to leave us. He called us to walk with us, teach through us, and love through us. We are not meant to live this life alone in our own strength but be fully dependent upon the strength of a very capable and loving God.
"Jesus said there is only one way to develop and grow spiritually, and that is through focusing and concentrating on God. In essence, Jesus was saying, "Do not worry about being of use to others; simply believe in Me." In other words, pay attention to the Source, and out of you "will flow rivers of living water." (John 7:38)" - Oswald Chambers
Listen to God and be obedient to the calling He has placed or is placing upon your life.
There is so much joy to be found when we rely on the foundation of the calling
God has placed upon our lives.

Thank you so much for sharing this Jen. I needed a different perspective to get a grasp of everything that is happening on this race, especially this month as my team takes on Unsung Heroes in Panama. The first two days have been utterly crazy between planning, preparing, cooking, etc. All I to do want is to focus on God, in prayer and fasting and hear his direction in this journey. After all, that is exactly what he called me to.
ReplyDeleteI miss you Jen and I hope our Lord is blessing you and your family tremendously.
Love, Isa.
Your writing inspires me!
