It's worth it!
This past week Mark and I took two days and went to Traverse City, MI. It's pretty quiet up there this time of year so we really had time to go to coffee shops, sit and read, and just talk. It was WONDERFUL!(We almost got lost too since I couldn't remember which Holiday Inn we were staying at..Mark said I'm never planning a trip again! It was embarrassing and a good laugh!)
As I'm married longer (we just celebrated five years) and grow a little older I realize how important it is to invest in my relationship with my husband. I have found that it is so easy for us to get caught up in church, others needs, laundry, exercise, family time with Anderson, talking on the phone, errands and so many other menial tasks that you can actually find yourself almost "co-habitating" and not investing in your relationship. Now...I'm not saying this is where Mark and I are at but honestly...we've had some serious discussions lately and realized we don't want to go there. We asked ourselves what we can do as a couple to be consistently working on our relationship and we actually sat down and made a list of things that we can do for each other. This journey we have started of not just maintaining our love but investing in it has been hard, it's pushing us out of our comfort zones, but it is giving us the greatest feeling ever...knowing we are trying our best.
I write all of this because it is really becoming a passion of mine to encourage my friends to take time together as a couple. Laundry and dirty floors can wait, e-mails at the office can wait, your KIDS can actually wait sometimes! It is worth it...so...stop what you are doing and give your spouse a call or send them an e-mail just to say you love them and then...sometime this week...try to take time to make them a priority. Mark and I are really working on this...trust me...it's hard but I am already seeing the benefits within my household! I've learned it's healthy to stop and evaluate things before it's too late!

Thanks for sharing Jen. I am glad that you guys benefited from your time away.
